Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 29, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what information Krannie, LLC ("Krannie", "we", "us") handles when you use krannie.com, the Krannie Manuscript Framework desktop application ("KMF"), and the KMF Companion app for iPhone and Android, and what we do with it. The short version: your writing stays yours. We don't sell your information, we don't show you ads, and we don't track you across other apps or websites.
Your manuscripts stay on your computer
KMF is a desktop application with no multi-tenant cloud service. Your manuscripts, pen names, Story and Series Bibles, audit history, covers and settings are stored on your own computer. Saved credentials, such as your AI provider API keys and your license key, are kept in your operating system's secure credential store (the Keychain on macOS, Credential Manager on Windows), not in plain files.
Information you give us
- Purchases. Our store is run on Payhip. When you buy, Payhip and its payment processors handle your order and payment details; we receive your name, email address and order details so we can deliver and support your license. We never see your full card number.
- Support requests. When you contact us or use Submit a Support Request in KMF, we receive what you write plus, from the app, your email address, app version, operating system, your computer's memory and processor, and your license ID (a reference number, not the license key itself). We use an AI service to help read and sort support requests. No manuscript text is included.
Information the desktop app sends
- License activation and periodic checks. Your license key, a hashed machine fingerprint (never the raw machine identifier), your platform and your edition, sent to our licensing service. No manuscript content.
- Update checks, once each time the app opens and whenever you ask, which ask our update server whether a newer version exists. They send only your platform, edition and app version, and never download or install anything on their own.
- AI features. When you connect your own AI provider (such as Anthropic, OpenAI or Google Gemini), the text for each request goes directly from your computer to that provider under your own account and that provider's terms. It never passes through or is stored on our servers. If you use Run Locally, no text leaves your computer at all. Optional natural voices for Read Aloud work the same way through your own Microsoft Azure account.
Quick Notes and KMF Companion (Pro and Elite)
- Your notes. Quick Notes are stored on our notes server so they reach your computer and your paired phones. A note stays there until you delete it, and deleting it removes it from the server.
- Pairing a phone. We store the name you give the phone, the type of phone, and a device token that lets it reach your notes. KMF on your computer uses your license key to confirm the notes are yours; the license key never goes on the phone.
- What you choose to share. Four options, all off until you turn them on: book and chapter titles (with each book's pen name), book statistics (numbers only), character and place names from your Story and Series Bibles, and your Series Bible canon. Your chapter prose is never shared. Turning an option off deletes that data from the server.
- On your phone. Voice notes are turned into text on the phone itself; your audio is never sent to us. The camera is used only to scan the pairing QR code, and no images are kept. Face ID or fingerprint unlocking is handled entirely by your phone; we never receive biometric data. Unfinished notes and your shared book list are stored on the phone and kept out of your phone's cloud backup.
- No tracking. KMF Companion contains no advertising, analytics or tracking software.
Our website
krannie.com is hosted by Payhip, which uses cookies and similar technologies needed to run the store, the cart and your account, and may collect standard technical information such as your IP address and browser type. We can see summary statistics about visits and sales. Payhip's own privacy policy describes its practices.
How we use information
Only to provide, license and support our products: delivering your purchase, activating and checking your license, delivering your notes to your devices, answering support requests, processing refunds, keeping our services secure, and meeting legal and accounting obligations. We do not sell or rent your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.
Who we share it with
Only the service providers that run parts of our service for us, such as our store and payment platform, our licensing service, the hosting provider for our servers, our email delivery service, and the AI service that helps sort support requests. They may use your information only to provide those services. We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect our rights or the safety of others.
How long we keep it
Order and license records are kept for as long as your license is active and as long as we need them for support, accounting and legal obligations. Notes stay until you delete them; shared book data is deleted when you turn sharing off. Support correspondence is kept as long as needed to resolve your request and keep a record of it.
Your choices and rights
You can delete notes, turn sharing options off, or unlink a phone at any time from KMF or the phone app. You can ask us to access, correct or delete the personal information we hold about you by contacting us; depending on where you live (for example, the EU, the UK or California) you may have additional rights, and we will respond as the law requires.
Security
Information sent between our apps and our servers is encrypted in transit, and credentials on your devices are kept in your system's secure store. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your information.
Children
Our products are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Where information is processed
Krannie, LLC is based in the United States, and information we handle is processed in the United States.
